Has anyone else had problems with ABBEY arranging a mortgage?

Hi,
I just wondered if I am alone in my experience of trying to arrange a re-mortgage through ABBEY.
They take forever to deal with any problems, Don't call you back when they say they will and the person that you NEED to talk with is never available. Everything has to be dealt with at branch level and if they fail to produce there apppears to be no-one else to contact so you are stuck with the innefficiencies of that particular branch.
Errors made in producing my mortgage are seen as an occupational hazard.
Because of a massive error on their behalf, and admitted by the branch manager, I was finally informed that they cant process the re-mortgage without the results of a search (Usually takes 2-3 weeks)This was 10 days prior to the planned exchange date!!
My solicitor then told us to tell them that there is such a thing as a search indemnity insurance that is normally acceptable. They then went off and discovered that it can be dealt with in this manner, so, on our insistance they then arranged this to happen.
I finally received my acceptance yesterday and the exchange date is this Friday???.
Stress? They don't know the meaning of the word!
I am just hoping that the funds will be cleared in my bank by then. They might or they might not seems to be the attitude of the staff of the branch.
Dispicable!! I shall never obtain another mortgage from them for as long as I live.
Incidentally, I am an existing customer so perhaps the 'New Customers Only' advert is referring to ABBEY.
Any other life threatening experiences?
