Click on 'Outdoor Cookware'. Considering that even the most basic genuine Trangia set costs £20 or more this looks like a raging bargain to me, so I'll be queweing at 9AM on Thursday:). It's just a shame it doesn't have a kettle. According to the Lidl website it's 'Food Safe' too which is a bonus:rolleyes:.

Well I reckon that, when camping, the best quality most functional gear possible is always the best course because when you are cold and wet, or simply gasping for a cuppa, you would almost certainly pay the difference for a functioning bit of kit. Personally, I wouldn't try to save money on this essential, I'd get the best I could.Wins - 2004: Nothing, 2005: Zip, 2006: Nil, 2007: Zero, 2008: Naught, 2009: You get the picture0

I just plan to use it on picnics TBH, I won't be taking it up Everest. Since the only critical bit is the burner, if that works the rest of it can't really fail to do the job even if it (say) dents more easily than a Trangia or doesn't go together as well.
In my experience Lidl don't sell rubbish, their stuff is cheap but it works. Since you can get about four of these for the price of one Trangia, who cares if it wears out a bit more quickly?0 -
I guess you are right, then, and I've always thought that Trangias are a little overpriced. Tips - the burners always gunge up after a while anyway - a very thin wire is a useful accessory. Buy Meths from a trade paint supplier in 2 or 5 litre sizes as its sooo cheaper. Mix the meths with 10 - 15% water to reduce soot. Burn all of the fuel off when finished as spilt fuel will taint your cooking. Meths doesn't taste so bad after the first couple of glasses...Wins - 2004: Nothing, 2005: Zip, 2006: Nil, 2007: Zero, 2008: Naught, 2009: You get the picture0

Thanks for the tips. I'll post back on Thursday night once I've tested the burner to see how well it works (although I last used a genuine Trangia 10 years ago so can't make an objective comparison).0

NOT GOING TO BE STOCKED
I went to the Romford branch today, it wasnt in stock and was told that it wasn't going to be stocked - mistake possibley in leaflet ??!!
- anyone got their hands on one ??0 -
Yes, I got one this morning at Lidl in Canterbury. They had lots in stock, and it looks very good to me. Also bought one of their backpacks for my son, seems like excellent value for £34.99 :j Throw in a few large packs of McVities choc digestives for 46p a time and you can't go wrong.0

Yeah I got one too, there were loads of them there. Have yet to cook anything with it, but the quality of the pans is reasonable if not brilliant.0

For anyone wanting even cheaper outdoor cookware, this site has some excellent instructions on building your own stove out of some aluminium drinks cans:
