Day One!

Hi I'm Mel ... not exactly new to the forum but today is Day 1 for my/my OH's Debt Free Journey :j

I'm in the process of digging out all the letters etc regarding our debts so will have a more detailed picture later but it's roughly as follows:

My debts

Cahoot Loan £7900 approx (bought by Debt Managers Limited)
Egg Loan £8900 approx (looked online and it says £0.00 so probs been sold on so will wait in anticipation to find out which lovely DCA will contact me!)
Egg Card £1378
Mint Card £461.80 (managed by Triton Credit Services atm)
AMEX £1700 approx
Barclaycard £620 approx
Topshop £360 approx (managed by CL Finance)
Overdraft £1250 (not a problem i.e not chasing repayment etc but living in it permanently!)

OH debts

HSBC £300 approx (sold to DCA, not sure who)
Natwest o/draft £560 (no longer using a/c)
We have also received a letter for £2978.69 from CL Finance Ltd but he's not sure what this debt relates to so we have written for CCA.
Council Tax (old a/c from approx 2002) £279
There are also rent arrears from previous garages etc he had, will dig out bills later and a DVLA fine which I also need to locate.

We also have a previous council tax debt of £329 from our last home when my OH wasn't working and we struggled to pay. £55 arrears turned into £329 with costs and I currently have an Attachment of Earnings in place for this. Final payment to be deducted from my wages on 18 Feb.

There are no interest charges on any of the above as we went to CAB last year and interest has since been frozen. I currently pay £10 per month to the Cahoot Loan and £1 token payments to everyone else. Now my partner is working we are in a better position to attack the debts and reduce them.

OK, so the plan thus far is to sell as much as poss on Ebay to pay of OH council tax debt of £279, any difference will be paid from my annual bonus on 18 March.

We are then going to increase the monthly payments on my 2 loans (my big debts) and save up so I can hopefully agree settlement figures of around 70% for all the credit card bills. After while this will then just leave the 2 loans so I can throw all the money at them and pay them off sometime before I retire!

Just thought I'd welcome you all to the start of my journey

    Right ... day 3!

Experian report is on it's way in the post.

No nasty letters in the mail today :p

I've just put 16 items on Ebay and one's already got a bid! Yay!

Lots more stuff to put on there ... it's just taking time!
