  • stacey, hi and lots of hugs to you tonight

the first thing that everyone on this site will advise is for you to contact one of the debt agencies who offer all their help for free so I have posted below all the details borrowed from others postings

you have found friends here on this site so once you have spoken to one of the agencies and got some good advice we are all here to help and support and listen to your troubles and there is always someone with knowledge or the same experience to help you through all you are going through

    take care
    Lesley

Your first port of call should be to contact one of the Debt Charities; see links below. Their services are free; they have no vested interest to serve; their advisors are professionally trained and the advice they give will be objective and in your best interests only. CCCS operate a system of telephone appointments that are designed to be flexible and don’t require you to attend an office based interview. At the CAB you will need to make an appointment with a specialist Financial Advisor; other advisors may not have the specialist knowledge you’ll need.

If you’re advised that bankruptcy is the most suitable solution to your financial problems then we can offer the best support and anecdotal advice that you’ll find anywhere on the Web.

For more specific advice and support, in an environment that is managed by people with first hand experience of bankruptcy, and moderated to ensure that no deliberately inflammatory or abusive posts are made then please visit:

Just remember, as desperate as you may feel at the moment, we have all experienced what you are going through at the moment and with the right support and advice things will improve. It’s not an easy route to take but it is a route that will put you back in control of your life rather than just reacting to events.
  • Right are the council tax and rent your only debts. Is the housing benefit agreed and if so can it be backdated.
No-one is coming for your children although someone to get rid of the boyfriend would help.

Hi Stacey and welcome. Please try not to worry. When do you think the bailiffs will be coming for your council tax arrears? Has anything gone to court yet? Your next course of action should be to contact Citizens Advice Bureau. Can your boyfriend agree to pay some of the council tax or rent? I'm assuming he is living with you and not paying any of the bills. HAve your council tax benefit and housing benefit come through yet?

I'm sure someone else will come along with some better answers than I've got but please try not to worry. I'm shutting the computerdown now for the night but will be back on early tomorrow morning.

  • Bankruptcy wont help get rid of the boyfriend as he sounds like an asset of no value at all:confused:

To be honest you do ned to clarify if you are getting all the benafits your entitled to as those figures you gave are way below what you should get including HB etc

how many of the arrears/debts are in joint names with your boyfriend if any?
Thats it, i am done, Blind-as-a-Bat has left the forum, for good this time, there is no way I can recover this account, as the password was random, and not recorded, and the email used no longer exits, nor can be recovered to recover the account, goodbye all …………. :(
  • we have eveything in joint names but it me that has to deal with everything
  • we get houseing benifit but his wages are all over the place every month but thet where late in recivng everything
  • hi again Stacey

are you able to spend time on the phone during the day?

If you can get to speak with Citizens Advice on Monday like FYP suggested they will be able to check you are getting all the right benefits as well as helping you see what other options you have for dealing with the debt and the possibility of bailiffs coming before you start considering bankruptcy as your final choice.

  • to be quite blunt you would be financially a lot better of without the boyfriend (or his income)

the whole point of benafits is they give you the bare minimum to survive so if they have been worked out after your BF wage, which your never getting, you dont stand a chance of meeting your paymants.

if the CT has reached bailiff stage there is nothing you can do if you cant offer then a paymant which right now it doesnt appear you can

you need to pool all your income or seperate so you can claim what you need to live

Bankruptcy will just leave your BF liable for any joint debt if only you do it so wont achieve anything while your together

  • stacy i can't really add anything to this thread other than to ask you to do as said above & contact cab, they wont judge ou & will help you, you have done the hardest bit which is to admit you have a problem

    on the BF front it sounds as though you will be better off without him hun, i know that wont get rid of the debt but it will make you a happier mum to your children !!!!{hugs}}}
