It might not necessarity be wrong - If you have other income from anywhere (ie rental of a property, pension, anything like that) that uses up your tax allowances, this might be why.

Employers operate BR codes for two main reasons - it's either because they have never received a P45 or P46 from you, or because the revenue have instructed them to do this by issuing them with a P6 (recode notice for you), I'd advise checking with your employer which is the case with you.

If you are on the wrong code, you may get some money back :D , beware though, if you should have been paying into the 40% bracket, you might owe the taxman . If you do end up owing money, contact your local tax office and ask them if they would consider collecting the arrears by way of re-coding you for the 2008 - 2009 tax year. It will mean that you are taking home less each month, but it least it will be a stable figure rather than a one off hit.
:D Make a list of important things to do today. At the top, put 'eat chocolate'. Now, you'll get at least one thing done today. :D

Just to let you know - tax refund for this year of almost £800!!!! Have been told to send previous year's P60's now, so hoping for a good result! Discovered that previous employer had failed to send the paperwork when I changed jobs.

    Think twice before spending anything!
  • Hi,

Mind and take a copy of P60's, just incase they get lost in post, good luck.
