Dropshipping

Has anyone had any experience of dropshipping as an effective source of income:question: Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated  .

  • I have been wondering/considering this myself, so I would be inclined to see if anyone has as well. My scepticism would be unreliable shipping etc, as the buywer would not know that shipping was out of your control. As well as products becoming unavailable or selling out.

Just thought i'd add my own drop shipping experiences on here.
I have used drop shipping wholesalers for a number of products. From iPods to Laptops as well as toys. IT can work really well if you have a company that you can rely upon. I have probably dealt with 5-7 companies/people from whom i drop shipped and all were excellent.
The thing i actually found was that some wholesalers don't actually advertise that they drop ship but when you speak to them they actually say they have a drop ship service available. Others will drop ship once you place a few orders with them and a level of trust has been gained. Just a question of asking.
I've never had a negative feedback from a buyer as a result of a dropship purcahse.

The only thing that makes it difficult, especially if you are not selling brand new goods via drop shipping, is that you don't actually know the consdition of the item since you can't see it and usually no picture is provided. I got around this by simply saying for used items that this is Graded Stock and so may have some marks and scratches but usually the company you are ordering from will give you a fairely accurate description.

To start off with i would suggest that you try drop shipping small items with a reputable supplier once you're happy they are doing a good job then start to advertise more items, that's how i started. Finding a decent drop shipper is not that difficult and i have not lost any money yet adopting this approach.

drop shipping is where an item is sent directly from the manufacturer/whiolesaler to the end customer. So myself as a seller, i do not need to handle stock or shipping. I take payment from a buyer, then order from the drop shipper, pay them there share, tell them the shipping address of the buyer and they ship directly to them.
It can be good as i don't have to hadnle stock, or store the stock or worry about fulfilling. Although you need to amek sure the poepl sending out items are genuine and deliver on time.

I'm afraid I lost a lot of money using a powerseller dropshipper about 2 years ago. He ran off wih my customers money and the goods. It was around Christmas and he had £6k of customers money. I also lost about £4k fighting legal action from customers and of course lost my ebay income.
I'm sure for every bad story theirs a good story.
