exempt from 30 days??

Why do argos sell some items with exempt from 30 days guarantee and some items not.
I got an item the other day decided to check it out and thought to myself hold on i think i have one of these already stuck away and i had.
No worries i said will take this back and use the refund towards a few other items i want, but i see on the receipt it says i cant.
Anyone had luck taking these back or do they just refuse blank, its not a great deal of money and i probably could sell it again, but it would be easy just to take it back and get refund or use the refund on the other items i want.
Would i just be wasting my time trying to take it back,i should have noticed i had one already but i never and thought great what i deal must get this and wish i never now
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

  • They exclude things that could have health implications, or things that you could use once and return (such as Christmas lights), or things you might just want to "rent" a while such as consoles and games. It stops the use and return culture that has been so prevalent with people like M&S giving refunds so easily. It does not affect your right to return faulty goods.

I would say just hold onto it for a while, it might even go faulty on you!!

I bought a paortable dvd player from argos that said it was excluded from the money back guarentee. I got it home and discovered that it did not have a battery or an adapter to watch it anywhere but the car. I immediately took it back and they agreed to refund it as it was not clearly explained in there catalogue, and it was little over half an hour since I had bought it. However they were not particularly keen to refund it, and I had to ask for the manager and hold up the queue etc.
I would reckon you'll be unlikely to get your money back, especially if the item is opened or used.

I've returned things in the past that were exempt and I've found as long as it's clearly not been used and you ask nicely you've a very good chance of being allowed to return the item.

The point of the exemption is to stop items being returned where it would cause a problem if they had been used (a digital camera for example). Argos staff do often apply some common sense where it's clear that the item hasn't been used.
  • i agree with Pond.If you can obviously see that its not been used then they are normally fine. One shop assistant told me it was at the managers discretion. She also said that if at point of purchase you were unsure of whether it really was suitable then get the manager to write on you receipt that its ok to bring it back for a refund.I did that with some xmas lights...i was unsure if i could get an extension for outside lights.i expalined to the manager that i had to check if i could get an extension to fit and so long as it was obvious i hadnt used them then it was fine for me to return them.

It may depend what you bought but I bought one of those £2.99 camera bags last week but when I got home realised it wasn't big enough and noticed it was exempt on the receipt so I phoned customer services who said as long as it was in re-saleable condition then I should be fine but that it was at the discretion of the store.

I took it back yesterday, mentioned I'd spoken to CS who said it should be fine and they refunded me without any problems.

As they are unopened I would have thought your chances of a refund were pretty good. I'd just say you bought them for someone but they'd already got them.

I have returned a couple of psp games which were unopened, without receipt and received a giftcard for the lowest selling price.

I also tried to return a spa gift set which was an unwanted present but was told it was non returnable, I tried a different argos and they let me return for a giftcard.

So if you dont get what you want the first time try a different Argos as you may get lucky.
