Help

I had worked out that we would have enough money this month to cover all our bills. My husband is currently out of work and has been claiming JSA. The money we were using for this month's bills was the last of our savings. He was overdrawn on his account and now the bank have told him that his JSA is enough to cover his bank loan but not the rest of the household bills we need to cover.

I was going to get in contact with all our creditors and explain the situation, offering token payments.

What has happened with the bank has now thrown me out of sync and I don't know what to do for the best.

What should I be doing in this situation? We have enough to cover all bills going forward until he gets a job but not the cards and loans.

It also means that now we don't have enough money to cover us for food for the rest of the month and we don't have enough food in the house to last us until I get paid again.

Please can somebody give any suggestions as to what we need to do?

  • Hi

Its hard but dont panic you have posted on a great site. I would go open up a new bank account and get the JSA and any wages paid in to there. Then you can offer token payments until a new job comes along.

The current bank may make things arkward with wanting to take the payment out of the existing account and apply charges. This Im not so sure how to help except other people who know more will be along and try cab or cccs.

Whether or not the bank cause problems you will still need money to live on so still open a new account.

    Hope this helps for now.

    Hi

it would be worth checking to see if you have any Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) on any loans, cards or overdrafts, as these are designed to make the payments in just your circumstances. It may be that you haven't got PPI but it is often added without you realising it. If you have paid premiums you should claim!

    Good Luck

Hi Wendy, that's what I thought about opening a new bank account although I have an account with a different bank that we could put his JSA in and have all the priority bills coming out of. Not sure if we should close hubby's account.

Hi Medman, as far as I'm aware hubby doesn't have PPI on his loan and the cheap PPI I took out to cover my loan obviously wouldn't pay out.
