Urgent please can anyone help - court looms?

Hi please can anyone advise me, i was issued with a statutory demand for Bankruptcy for a debt of £6144.10 even though i advised connaught collections that i would be able to pay in January, court date set for this coming Tuesday, but on Wednesday my OH contacted them and said he had funds to pay and would they stop the order they in reply said in hands of solicitor but byThursday connaught rang to say they would accept the payment
and stop the Bankruptcy order, so OH paid the £6144.10 and told reciept be sent 1st class Friday morning. Well today is Saturday no reciept came but letter from their solicitor sying " they understand from connaught that you have made payment of principle sum £6144.10 and now all that remains is settlement of clients pettition costs which they have calculated to be £2,435.00 payment to firms client account " it states bank details then says
"upon reciept of cleared funds we are instructed to apply on the hearing of the petition for same to be dismissed."
I am at my wits end and not sure as to where i stand now or what to do and original debt to Barclaycard was £4,100.00 which went to £6144.10 and now
solicitors my OH wont pay anymore and cant, is this legal as i've paid what the demand was. Sorry my post long but please does anyone have the answer to this as i must now have to go to court after all.

I think you have been turned over here . Sorry but you should never pay by phone under these circumstances . It leads to so many complications. I would attend court with details and ask for a posponement. For now go onto the CAG website , they have really good legal chaps on there . GOOGLE for them . GOOD LUCK

In fact, I'd let the bankruptcy hearing go ahead. You can be guaranteed the judge will have a lot to say about it when you explain that you've actually paid the debt this weekend. I seriously doubt any judge will declare you for a bill you've already paid.
  • Thankyou to Stapeley and Conor for the advice it means alot to have your replys, i will go on the CAG website see what i can find out. I will draft everything down as it looks like i will be going to court after all and i feel sick thinking about it as i've never been in court before and will probably cry all way through it. Thanks again to you both

I wouldn't worry too much julesverne. I think the solicitors might be feeling a bit sick afterwards. Judges don't like having court time wasted and you will be treated far more sympathetically than the solicitors.
