For Tae Kwon-Do you could also try

    http://www.tagb.biz/clubs3.html

Free lessons available and the association has over 300 schools all over the country so if you are moving around a lot you can just transfer to a different school and keep your grade. that way you dont have to start all over again.

Most schools have dedicated kids and adults lessons.

Oh and its a 0800 free call to register your interest as well.

Over 15s only but Bujinkan Tao Shibu at the Chi Yoga entre in Glassford St. Glasgow offers a free introductory lesson, Classes are 8pm Wednesday and Sunday. It's a blend of 9 historical Japanese Martial arts schools with an international reputation, licenced under Soke Maasaki Hatsumi in Japan. You learn evasion, strikes, kicks, grappling and throws in a safe structured environment. Discounts for students and people on benefits. And it's fun, anyone interested PM me for any contact details you may need. There is another Bujinkan School in Glasgow and they are good mates of ours but I don't know what they charge or if they offer a free introductory lesson.

PS I am not the teacher - just one of the " senior" :rotfl: students and it's not run for profit.

In my experience most martial arts centres will offer a free trial lesson before people commit to enrolling into a full course - certainly the Aikido class that my husband attends does so and the same the Shotokan Karate class I used to attend.

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Generally speaking if an instructor won't give me a free trial lesson, I won't even turn up. I think it's fundamental to being a good school that you allow someone to come along and have a little play without being charged, as it gives an opportunity to observe the class from the student perspective and gives clear insight into whether it's something worth keeping up with. If the instructor is any good, he'll have a high conversion rate from free sessions into paid sessions, if they're not any good thay'll probably charge you for the privilege of taking part in that first session because they don't expect to see you back.

Of course, this doesn't mean that everyone who gives a free session is any good, nor does it mean that anyone who doesn't is going to be a bad teacher. It's just my own personal method of deciding if I even bother turning up to try out a school.

I also won't touch anything that requires long-term contracts.
