Value toothpaste or brand?

We usually have the cheaper (not value) but normal Sainsburys own brand - about 57p a medium tube. Tesco is also nice, but the Superdrug own brand is HORRID in my humble, tastes of flour!
We generally go through a tube every 10 days between the two of us... bit of overbrushing going on at Chez Bobbadog, I think! x0 -
I am fascinated by this thread!
Shall def try the bicarb suggestion as I love the 'Arm & thingy??' paste but am too mean to buy any until I use up my Boots Smile stash.
Any ideas about toothbrushes? there are so many to consider!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I also use Tesco's whitening - quite impressed that it came top of a Which poll! My OH always used to buy Colgate but he's never complained about the Tesco's one so it must be alright... he does moan when we run out of mouthwash though....0

I use Dentalux Herbal from Lidl - it is cheap. Since I have been using it, I have noticed a difference with my teeth and so has my dentist - no more fillings for me!
I think it is better than the likes of Colgate which is all foam and not much else.0 -
Hi, I am currently using mcleans whitening and colgate whitening which I got when tesco almost gave them to me free (with coupons)
However, my dentist said that value/basics/smartprice works just as well as the branded products and I have had that before with no complaints.

We're using boots own brand sensitive toothpaste - it was on 3 for 2. My only problem is that the top gunges up a lot and of course I'm the only one who ever cleans it. Tastes fine though0

This is somewhat true - it completely depends on the food. Some acidic foods, like orange juice, coca-cola (well, all fizzy drinks actually) definitely 'soften' enamel and brushing straight after these is very bad for your teeth. It will 'wear them away' - if you did it every day for 10 years (eg brushing after orange juice at breakfast) you are going to end up with weakened teeth, prone to decay and sensitivity. Waiting 20-30 mins in this situation would hugely reduce the problem.
Most foods are OK though and don't soften enamel. If they did, our teeth would not last us very far into life. Brushing after meals is usually beneficial, as it removes the food debris and all the sugars which the bugs in plaque use to grow and then cause trouble.
(I'm an oral health scientist, in case you hadn't guessed!)
agreed: just don't brush immediately after eating/drinking acidic substances, such as orange juice. Excellent threadBLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

i use colgate or macleans, DD who's one also uses the same toothpaste as us, as we don't have florinated (sp?) water and the dentist advised not to use childrens toothpaste as there isn't enough floride in it.0

We use Tesco own brand and have done for years- my teeth rarely need any treatment at all from the dentist, whereas DH always seems to need something. Don't think our brushing /flossing techniques vary much, so maybe I just have stronger teeth?Resolution:
Think twice before spending anything!0 -
Iv got to say im a toms natural toothpaste kind of gal its not cheap though and im not willing to compromise my budget on it at all.
I found the chemical & floride filled pastes leave me feeling ill for hours.
I used to put it down to not liking mornings!
Ps - Its possiable floride isnt good for you. There is a lot of info about it on various websites not just the ones attached. I dont like the fact that something you rub into your mouth advises to minimise swallowing either.
