I need advice on credit file changing

Hi guys,

My OH needs some help with his credit history file, theres a few things on the history wrong like loans that says he owes £3000 when he only owes £2300 at present. Should he get that changed? as its not correct? and also should cards that his paid off and cancelled, should they still be on the account?

Who do you write to or call the credit file company or the bank that it has wrong details with?

Its so confusing! ive looked through the section martin wrote but it doesnt really help on when there mistakes.

Any help/advice would be great!:o

  • Has there been a delay in updating the file? If actual errors as opposed to just a delay in the file being updated, contact the bank in question and ask them to amend the file to ensure that it is accurate.

You can write to the credit reference agency, but they'll only listen to the bank which provided the info in the first place in retracting it.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
  • Hi Mariagti

Im having the same problem at the minute:mad:

Im using the check my file site which has all 3 CRA reports and on callcredit one of my listed loans hasnt been updated for at least 3 months.
I thought I should write to the bank but my balance has been updated with equifax and experian so maybe its just CC being slow?

Ive written to them anyways because I got added to the electoral role in January and they havnt noted that either.x

Edited to add : I think all asccounts, even settled ones stay on the file for 6 yers although they should show as settled if theyve been paid?
Someone correct me if im wrong :-(

Im hoping the letter sorts it all out.
Good luck and I hope things get sorted soon x

  • They should show as settled as paid - my Cahoot loan is being added to my list of paid accounts as I make the last payment in 2 days time! If my file is not updated by the end of Feb, I'll chase it up with Cahoot and ask them to make sure it's marked as settled.

I'm apparently just a few points off getting my score to move from 'very poor' to 'poor' and I'm sure the settlement of a 4 year loan will help me make that move. Small, but insignificant step to being a 'normal' person again!
