Hi There,
I wasn't quite sure what board to put this on, so I thought the combined knowledge of DFW would be my best bet!
A bit of background:
My OH works for a company that has recently (in the past month) been bought out. He has worked for said company since March. Since then (march) he has been paid by BACS on 30th of every month. He has a very wooly contract of employment. The only reference it makes to pay is that "Pay day will be on the 30th of every month"
This month, due to some admin !!!! up, he has been paid by cheque. He knew nothing about this until the cheque was given to him on 29th. He works 6-6 (at least) every day, so has been unable to get to the bank to pay it in. I had to go into work late this morning to get it paid in. Unfortunately however, all our bills go out today too! I have spoken to the bank, and they have extended our OD to cover the bills that will be going out in the next couple of days, but we had already incurred £30 charges.
I'm so annoyed, because this is the first month we shouldn't have been in debt to the bank at all, but now we're totally skint (until the cheque clears anyway).
Anyway, what I would like to know is can we claim back our bank charges from OH's employer. The bank have been fantastic at extending our OD, but won't refund the charges as we have had charges in the past (as I said, it should have been our first month without problems)
Hope someone can offer some words of wisdom!
TIA!

Hi, Who do you bank with? I know that Natwest will remove one set of charges at the branch (one of the staff told me this when I was helpin my daugther sort her account out). I bank with Barclays and I am not sure about them. It might be worth going back in tomorrow and seeing someone different. It's wrth a try.Total debt Feb 2012 = £54354.11 😳

Hi,
Don't you love employers!
I would think that, unless the contract says 'paid by BACS on the 30th' they have an excuse - although, of course, it wasn't helpful to pay your OH this way.
Perhaps he could ask that they do that (if the bank won't waive them) - it can't hurt to ask. I'm not convinced they are obliged to do it
