Hand in an old analogue radio, and it'll get sent to Africa with new batteries from Duracell. Plus you get a tenner voucher for a brand new DAB from Roberts, Pure or Sony.

One question I would have to ask myself is how are they going to afford to buy new batteries once the old ones run out.
That is why there are lot for freeplay radios out there, windup and solar panels.
Seems to be on of those nice but possibly misguided attempts to help the third world.
But may be I am just cynic and wondering what Duracell are getting out of it.

Seems to be 10% off rather than £10? It all seems like quite a lot of effort for them when you can buy a radio for a couple of quid now. I suspect this is more about promoting DAB than sending radios to Africa.0

Apparently the wind-up radios haven't taken off, because batteries are so cheap

And it's an 0870 phone number for info, wonder how much they make out of that?Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

What in south africa? Don't think so. You think that people in the middle of no where have a shop to buy cheap batteries. Even if there was a shop I doubt they would have the money.
I have what is called the classic from freeplay and it uses solar as well as wind up power. It is a god send for the garden as it is so robust.
You find now that some of the freeplay products now allow you to charge them up as well so you can take they fully charged and even use the sun to re-charge the batteries.
Also people buy these products to cut down on the amount of batteries that are being used because we are such a throw away society.
