No worries, it's more like a savings account that you don't pay tax on.
2p off is still 2p off!

Are you allowed more than one ISA? I ask this because my old ISA (with Smile) has been neglected and I do not even know any of the account details anymore. it has about £10 in it and has had nothing paid in or out for about 4 years! I see First Direct have an uber high interest ISA (6.08%) so can I open one of these and start paying into it

You can pay in to one ISA each year so you'd have no problems with the old Smile ISA. Don't bother with the First Direct ISA as the high rate runs out on 6th October. Better to go for one with a high rate without catches. Halifax Direct ISA is one of the best currently available at 5.15% and you can manage it online.

    Yorkshire e-ISA pays 5.2% - even better!
