Making Progress - My Diary....

Well it is 2 weeks since I first logged on here.... And although I havent exactly made myself known, I have been doing a lot of reading and plotting and scheming as to how to reduce and eliminate our accumulated Debt.

We were in the (??)fortunate position that when my dh came clean about the problems we had (I was clueless) we were about to start an extension - and had got a mortgage extension to do this - so we actually had a lot of cash sitting in an account....

After a lot of talking - we have agreed that we will have to hold off the extension until we have SAVED UP the money to do this.... So although we have now managed to consolidate a lot of our debt, and now I am holding the purse strings! - hopefully we should be able to do this....

It is going to take me a few months to actually get to grips with what money comes and goes and when - and so post a proper SOA- as (embarassingly) I have never "run the household" before....

But for now I have been able to do the first bit....
Going to start it on a new post though so it is nice and tidy!!!!!!

  • Hi Sally, welcome aboard.....

A good way to see what is going in and out is to get hold of the last few months CC/bank statements, and see what u have spent and where..... also start a spending diary from now, and write down everything, even to the last penny, and u'll be able to see where u 'waste' cash.
I know this is stating the obvious, but make sure u close ALL UR CREDIT CARDS.... esp as u have used ur re-mortgage to consolidate, u don't want to run up loads more CC debt..... and besides, if u call and try to close them, u may be able to get some good BT deals for any remaining CC debt u might have.... Also check out whatsthecost.com to make sure that u are 'snowballing' correctly (paying the debts with the highest interest first) which will help to reduce ur debt a bit too.
Post ur SOA when ur ready, and there will be plenty of people to help u cut back where needed, they are a lovely, friendly, knowledgable bunch here!

It's scary but SO helpful. Good luck :)
