Does anyone know the best way to recycle these? I have about 5 pairs of glasses which I've kept (even although I can see nothing when I look through them now!), and don't want to simply throw them out.
Can anyone suggest any suitable ways to recycle?

You can either recycle them through any vision express store (if there is one close to you) or donate them to the second sight project by requesting a donation envelope from http://www.secondsightproject.com/envelope.php

I can think of many uses for lenses. If I had spare spectacles, I wouldn't get rid of them, but maybe that's just me.single mum of 2 boys

I've held onto them for about 10 year thinking 'they might come in handy'. Now they just take up room along with my other Obsessive Compulsions!Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0

In some of the non tourist parts of China they have stalls in markets with second hand spectacles.
Although I have not seen them myself I am reliably informed that they used to have a false teeth stall where you could try on(in) a second hand set of dentures - now that is recycling!!0 -
Luckily I've not got any of them kicking around looking for a new home!!! (Although if my dentist gets any more expensive, it might be cheaper getting them ripped out!)Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!0

Most of the opticians in my local high street accept old spectacles for charity - there's normally a bin located somewhere in the store.0

With the price of new spectacle frames these days, why don't you simply have the latest prescription lens refitted into your old frames? Or have the latest prescription lens fitted into one pair so that you've always got a spare pair in an emergency if your main pair gets lost. I mostly only use spectacles for driving, so have had an old pair of frames fitted with updated lens so I can keep a spare pair of specs in the car.0

Our recycling centre has a separate bin for unwanted glasses for charity. On a similar note Clarks now have a bin in our local store for shoes for sending abroad
Edited to say - last week it was cheaper for dh to get a new pair of glasses than to have new lenses fitted in the others“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”
