Trying to draw up a reasonable budget

I'm tackling the grocery bill at the moment. Out of interest, is there anyone else in my situation or similar, and how much do you put aside for food & cleaning materials?

2 adults, 1 x 13 year old, 1 x 11 year old, 1 x 5 year old, 1 x 3 year old.

What's a reasonable weekly budget?

£10-15 per adult is a good start

I was aiming at £60-£80 p/w, OH looking at £100 p/w. I like my idea best :-) but is it realistic?

Is that per day? We struggle to keep to £60 per week for two adults, excluding our Friday takeaway

well we are a family of 2 adults and 1 13 year old....unfortnately, the 13 year old eats as much as we do so I guess you can call us a family of 3 adults!

I've managed to get our weekly shop down to about £45-50 per week by simply buying only what I need .....our house saying is that if its not on the list, it doesn't get bought!

Another tip is to plan the week's menu, look in the cupboards as to what you actually need for those meals.

I have a family of (effectively) 4 adults (ages are 37, 35, 17 and a BIG 14 year old). We spend on average £100 per week on food and cleaning products. Markets are great for cheap fruit and vegetables as well as some cleaning products.

A good source of ideas to keep food bills down can be found on the Old Style board, those guys can also clean just about anything with vinegar so you can find ways to cut down on your cleaning products.

We are 4 adults, and we spend around £30 per week on meat, fish and veg plus around £30 in the supermarket. I have cut my washing powder consumption in half since I found these boards amongst other savings.

We are a family of 5 - 2 Adults, 2 Older teens (adult appetites) and 1 eleven year old. By using all the tips on the Old Style forum I have managed to cut my food bill (everything included) from £350 pcm to £200 max. We are even eating better. It was hard at first but now I have got used to it :D

Being debt free is my motivation

    Good luck

No...! LOL £10-15 per adult per WEEK - what kinda shops you go to? Harrods?

A Week worth of pasta and rice - packed lunches to work and cereal or toast in the morning. Look at lidyls, morrisons, or asda own brands thats the cheapest way to go.

    Nearlyrich has the right idea.

Thanks all. I've been shopping at Lidls and have been surprised at the quality of many of the goods at the prices charged. Will look at the old style board - one of the areas I haven't really looked at yey - to my cost it would seem.

I agree with Nearlyrich. My total is £200 per month. Less than £50 a week for 5 of us.
