I am no expert, however I am sure it is easier to get colours darker not lighter. I would guess you would have to remove the green colour before getting them gold/ cream. It might turn out patchy and uneven.
Also, most home dyeing is done in the washing machine these days. As your curtains are heavy cotton, will you be able to fit them in the washer?0 -
I'm also interested in this i've got some light blue curtains that have gone patchy in places from the sun and would like to dye a darker blue.0

I have dyed many things using dylon washing machine dye and have had great success dying light shades darker. Yes, you would have to strip the colour out first and then dye. I have not tried this and would imagine they could be patchy.
I have dyed cream cushion covers red, they had a raised pattern and the "raised" bit dyed darker than the rest, so was not too succesful.Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -
You can't go lighter unless you bleach first and I wouldn't advise you to do this as bleaching may damage the material.
Also curtains tend to have patches that have been faded by sunlight which may not be noticable until you dye them, then it appears patchy.
As JoeyEmma says it's difficult to get curtains in a washing machine and if you did them one at a time they may not match!

Hi we sell dylon and unfortunately if you use bleach on material, you then would not be able to dye as the dye won't take.Dylon do a colour stripper though you could try this. but to be fair it would be quite a costly process .0 -
Hi All
I was just reading here about how to dye curtains at home. But I have curtains that are too big to fit in my washing machine. Does anyone know where I can get them professionally dyed and any idea of cost?
Many Thanks

Googled
professional dyeing service curtains
and quite a few options came up. Probably best if you trawl through yourself as you know best what you have, want and are prepared to spend.
Also worth bearing in mind that dyeing in the washing machine does not permanantly stain, so it might be worth asking if you could do it your local launderette, where they have extra large machines - would probably help if you promised to pay for a hot wash cycle after you have finished in order to be sure that the machine s scrubbed.0 -
Thanks very much for taking the time to look in to this for me - I did try Google but not that wording.
