Comments
-
Just want to say a big thanks to everyone who has taken the time to make suggestions. There are certainly plenty to keep me busy for a few weeks!
I am not stressed about, my friends and I are taking it in turns to do a Sunday Roast and I agree it is nice just to have dinner cooked and good company! I want to do a traditional roast that i know everyone will enjoy, I just want to make it as cost effective as possible. :money:
Thanks for all the tips! :TOn a mission to be mortgage free!

A couple of weeks ago I cooked a piece of brisket in the slow cooker. It was quite cheap and I threw it in with carrots (know you don't like them but you could pick them out for you!) and onion, celery and swede all chopped up and added beef stock topped up with some cheap red wine.
When cooked I took out the meat and ver and thickened the sauce in a saucepan with some cornflour then sliced the meat and served with the veggies from the pot, roast potatoes and shredded cabbage and the 'gravy'. It was absolutely delicious, very easy and very economical. Serve just a couple of slightly thicker slices of meat each and pad out with the veg.:T0 -

This sounds perfect! Can I ask how much stock and wine you used? I have been slow cooking long enough to take an educated guess!!!

I am soooo sorry. I've only just found this thread again and see that you posted asking questions and I am sure that you've had your dinner party by now.
Just for the record, I added a equal mix of beef stock and red wine to about half way up the brisket, and turned the briket over half way through cooking, whcih was about 5 hours on low.0 -
