Hi there.
First. Yes, bake today and it will still be okay on Sunday, especially if you keep it in a tin.
Second. I take it you mean buttercream for the filling, rather than the top. Yes, buttercream will be fine for Sunday.
Third. Ice the top with a fairly stiff water icing, coloured green, and leave it to set. Next day, use a cone of greaseproof paper with a little hole cut in the end, (or a proper icing thing with a small round-hole nozzle), to mark out the white lines with stiffish water icing again, or butter icing. Because the green icing will be set, if you go wrong with your white lines you can wipe the white icing off gently and have another go.
Fourth. You're on your own with this one girl !!!!
Have a great party. :bdaycake:0 -
Hi
tpsjrm seems to have answered your questions with the answers I would have given. With regards to question "Number 4", I would suggest that when you're making the mixture, make sure you put enough air into it, by sieving the flour, don't mix it too heavily and make sure you add the baking powder (if the recipes calls for it).
Also make sure you cook it long enough, and when it's in the oven, don't open the oven door until at least 3/4 of the way through the cooking time because the sudden intake of cold air will make it sink.
Hope all this info helps. Can I show you a picture of a football cake I did too?

Btw, I used sugarpaste/fondant icing rather than water icing as I find it easier to work with and less messy.0 -

Here's another idea for you:

It's a sponge cake covered in butter cream. The fence is made from Cadburys Fingers cut in half and stood on the cut end.
The grass is made from dessicated coconut. Put it in a plastic box with a lid, add a few drops of green food colouring and give it a good shake. Repeat if it's not green enough!
The lines were iced on. You can either use the method with the greaseproof bag as suggested, or you can buy ready made decorating icing in tubes with a nozzle on ready to pipe.
The goals were made from wooden skewers. I just scored them with a knife where I wanted them to bend. The corner flags are more bits of skewers with some paper triangles stuck on.
My son had a football party in the leisure centre and him and his friends loved the cake. Here I go again on my own....0 -
You can buy sugarpaper (edible) football pitches from shops that sell cake decorations/hire out tins. They are fairly cheap and look very good.
I bought one about 5 years ago in the West Mids. Haven't looked for them since though.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Here's an edible football pitch that you put ontop of a cake. It's on Ebay.
