Where do i stand with partners morgage

my partner got divorced last year and moved out of his house which he gave to his wife but he cant get his name of the morgage. i got my own house in my name only i am worried if his ex wife defaults on the morgage and the bank chase my partner for payments will they be able to claim anything from me. My partners name is not listed on my morgage at all.:confused:

  • As long as you don't transfer your own house into joint names with your partner (or indeed hold any joint bank or savings accounts with him), any creditors of his ex, such as the mortgagee can't touch you or your assets.

    They can chase your partner, but if there is equity in his former home, the mortgagee will seek to sell that first. Only if there is then a shortfall does he become a realistic target for them, but to answer your question, your property is safe.

    But keep it owned solely by yourself!
