How is SA going? help!

Today I thought, hey I should make a start on my SA :D .

Last year it had gone smoothly so I thought little about it, and as tax certificates for bits of income, interests, arrived I bunged them into a file. Had a vague sentiment that not as much as there should be was there. And you know how it is, we are now in 2008 and have now to deal with things from April 2006 which seems so long ago and I made various complicated movements as a result of having arrived at MSE. But for some of my stuff I seem to have nothing. At least I do not have those tax certificates, sometimes there is other stuff from which the income and tax deducted can be worked out.

I ask - have they stopped sending tax certificates?

The stuff I do not have has all been taxed, so I can't be accused of defrauding, but you are supposed to declare everything anyway.

I look like being up half the night.noyade.gif For what I cannot find by tomorrow what would you do?
Sorry my posts so long - not time write shorter ones.

Do the best you can with what you have. If you do owe any tax, er on the side of caution. At least that way you will avoid the £100 penalty.

yes it is better to get something in that is not quite right than nothing.

Do you think I should say this is not quite complete but I do not think I owe you anything more (pretaxed savings) or not say anything?

    Panic.

And move your 31st Jan back to 31st Oct, in future years. That way you have some freespace .. but don't be tempted to erode it!

I wouldn't start putting 'this is not complete' notes in the free format area (you must be doing it online) ... otherwise they may determine it's not been filed. If the missing stuff is inconsequential - just leave it off and only remedy if queried.

I've just been filing a P810 to get a CITR refund. And noticed I'm missing a couple of interest statements (both for fixed rate accounts that finished part way through the year .. bit too co-incidental). But having searched every other file .. I'm 99% certain they never arrived. So, as they make not a jot to the overall result .. I'm having to feign ignorance. So you can share a bit of it!
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

 I am thinking I have a bit of the same co-incidence. Anyway from here and there I cobbled together what it must or might have been and now feel almost an Authority on how to bluff your way through Self-Assessment.

They said on the TV News the other morning that from 2008 paper-based forms will need to be in by 31/10. Online will remain unchanged at 31/01, so the backup plan of leaving it too late and sticking in a paper-based assessment won't be an option!
