tax rebate for paying own business insurance?

Hello,
I've been advised by work I need to have business insurance if I use my own car at work.
I probably do less than 1,000 business miles a year.
There are pool cars available, but only at head office, not at my satellite office which about fives miles away.
Can I get any tax relief if I take out business insurance?
We do get petrol expenses at 40p per mile.
Is that supposed to cover it or is that purely for fuel?
thanks

Hi, a similar thing happened to me. I rang my car insurance company and they added 'business use' to my normal policy for no additional charge. Someone else I know had to pay a small additional amount but not much -hardly anything. The mileage charge you get is supposed to cover any additional amount you might have to pay as well as petrol and a nominal amount toward depreciation of your vehicle, road tax etc. Although I don't know who you work for, it's always worked the same in principle wherever I've worked.

thanks for that.
I'll ring the insurance company tomm.
just worried it's gonna go sky high as I'm a journalist which is supposedly a higher-risk profession (tea-coma at the wheel?) and my car is a Japanese import..don't ask, worse buy of life..DEBT FREE! Sep '08/£9,800 in Oct '06 :beer:0 -
Similar story when I had to add to my OH's policy to cover her running an old guy (no .. not me!) around as part of respite care, for his family. Strange p/t job paid for by the local Council - but necessitated cover for 'fare paying passenger'.
It was simply added f.o.c by the Insce companyIf you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
In answer to your original question the 40p per mile is supposed to cover all the running costs of the car. So I guess that would include any insurance excess you may be requied to pay.0
