Im hoping this is on the correct fourm
I am off to the USA in June.:D
New York and then Texas - Houston, Galvaston and San Antonio. We have not booked our hotels but noticed that many ask for a code. It is worth looking to see if I can get any discounts..
Do any of you have a codes ?
Thanks in anticipation

I don't have a code, but just thought I'd throw out a recommendation for Hotwire. I've stayed with them many, many times, in Chicago, DC, New York, St. Louis, Texas (I think that's all
) and have been impressed every time.

You don't need a discount code to find great deals. I've gotten really nice hotels for $60 and $70 a night in Washington, D.C. and Atlanta. You won't find deals as good as that in NYC, but you can find deals. I start by searching http://www.hotels.com. When I find something that seems like a good deal, I'll go to a couple of other sites, like https://www.travelocity.com and https://www.orbitz.com and under the "Hotels" section, I'll search for the hotel I found on hotels.com. This way you can compare deals, as different sites may offer lower rates on the same hotel, or may have a better cancellation policy.
FYI, for your own comfort and safety, before booking any hotel check customer reviews at http://www.tripadviser.com. If users say the place is unsafe or dirty, stay away. Complaints about room size or other amenities are less important. And *never* stay anywhere that isn't even mentioned on tripadviser.com -- some so-called "hotels" advertised in New York are really dumpy, awful apartments that landlords claim are hotels. You can avoid this trap by only going to places that have been reviewed.0 -
Thanks guys, I always use Trip advisor but not heard of hot wire
Thanks for the tips0 -
My personal best recommendation is http://www.PriceLine.com - where you can "name your own price".
I used it quite a few times for New York, Chicago and Miami.
You pick the areas you are OK to stay in (let's say) New York and pick 4 stars hotel (so your stay is nice) and name your price. Research current prices on http://www.Orbitz.com - so you have an idea. Generally if 4-star New York (Manhattan) hotel price was $250 for lowest - I could book it for $110-$130!

Has anyone else tried the 'Name your price' thing on price line?
It seems a bit hit or miss, or do you really get a 4 star hotel for the price?0 -
I stayed at the following 2 hotels in New York (they seem to have favorable price agreement with Priceline):
Intercontinental The Barclay - http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/ic/1/en/hotel/nycha
Grand Hyatt New York - http://www.grandnewyork.hyatt.com/hyatt/hotels/index.jsp
Both were great!
I also landed Hyatt in Miami for my friend and Hyatt in Chicago.
On my experience - I pick good area and 4-star and start with 50% off rates shown on Orbitz.

Hotels are quite expensive in inner cities. If you are travelling by rental car, pick up discount coupon books at gas stations as you go through each state. We got some great deals.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

That's a good idea, and a great place to find discount offers is at Welcome Centers when you cross a state line. You can find great hotel deals, sometimes ones that are only offered from the Welcome Center. If you're going by car on an Interstate highway, you will see signs for the Welcome Center when you cross into a new state, they are right off the Interstate and easy to get back on the I-state from there. It's also a great place to find clean restrooms and lots of pamphlets about area attractions.
What I do, when possible, is book the best deal I can find online that lets me cancel by 6 p.m. the day of check in without any fees. Then if you find a better deal offered at a Welcome Center, call and cancel the room you already booked and switch to the better hotel.0 -
Great tips thanks very much
