Does she have dates of any incidents of domestic abuse against her?
Financial abuse comes under the umbrella of domestic abuse.Debt free in 2010
£6551.35 paid so far.
This WILL be my debt free year! :T0 -
The policeman who took her statement thinks she is eligible for legal aid and the CAB will be able to recommend a soliciter in her local area to help us.
This sounds so harsh, but she really is not very bright. I don't think she understood the concept of interest on loans until I explained it to her. And yes, she is very malleable - I recall she was targeted at school by bullies who managed to get about £200 off her before she said anything.0 -
Glad these is some support, but if she is liable for the loan, then BK could actually protect her against this sort of thing in the future.
No prospect of accessing easy credit via DS, bar stewards will not be interested in her.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I feel sick and angry that this man did this to your sister. Thankfully you have managed to stop the situation before it got worse.
I think that until you speak to CAB and a solicitor its difficult to ascertain a direction. Best to see what their advice is.

Well thats just bloody awful to think someone could be like that. I hope things work out as best they can but whatever you do, you keep coming back here and ask away. That is horrendous.
The appointment with CAB will be a good start; as maybe contacting www.clsdirect.org.uk but I have a feeling that any avenues involving legal action may not work in the end. But I would love to be wrong.
Should bankruptcy be an eventual solution (and there's no guarantee she needs to go that far yet) there is plenty of support on this site.
Good luck and keep us updated.
EDIT: to answer the question in the original post:at the moment I'm seriously considering declaring her bankrupt. She has no assets, earns a pittance and lives at home with her mother. Could the banks come after her mother's/other family members assets (obviously we don't want them to lose the house that belongs to her mother)?
No. They wouldn't be able to come after the house unless she had contributed to the purchase of it. i.e. contributed to the mortgage over a significant period or towards the deposit. I can't see that applying in this case.
But it may never come to that I hope.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Do you have a brother you can send round to this mans house? I doubt a criminal record will have any affect on the scumbag, the only language he will understand is a good kicking!!Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

How awful for your sis. she must be feeling so hurt thinking that she had a relationship with the guy and it turns out that he was just using her. Men like this prey on the vunerable can you track down his real name or anything to tell police ? The awful thing is that he may be moving in on his next victim now. He should be castrated and then have his hands chopped off ( form an orderly line behind me ). X0

I'm with PandaPants - I'm thinking a couple of hefty fellows with baseball bats "persuading" him to accompany them to the cashpoint...;)
