Help! Advice needed re: Remortgaging

When my husband and I bought our house 4 yrs ago it took sometime to get our mortgage due to defaults on a bad credit history. We got one through our bank and would like to remortgage to release some cash. Our mortgage is for 65K and we bought the house for 83K. Its now valued at 220K. We just wondered because of our poor credit history and trouble getting a mortgage to begin with would it be a better option for us to just remortgage with our current lender rather than tryin to shop around??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    It's well worth approaching your current lender to see what they can offer, but also worth speaking to a Whole of Market Fee-Free broker to see what else may be available.

    If all your bad credit is historic - ie before you bought the house originally, then it won't drastically effect your ability to borrow
