How to become a Chef Lecturer?

At present OH and I co-own a Sandwich shop with our best friend which is extremely busy and stressful. Unfortunately the Best Friend is now heavily pregnant and leaving sometime in March/April with nobody to replace her (but this problem does not seem to be being addressed) . This has caused no end of problems in our working relationship with her, things have started to turn sour and the shop is now on the market but not shifting.
However me and OH realise that at some point the shop will sell leaving us completely without an income and I'm starting to panic about what the future holds.
OH has been a chef since leaving school, he went into catering college, then swiftly worked his way to being head chef by the time he was 19. He is a lot more talented than he realises and has had several successful businesses. Having said this he no longer wants to work in the kitchens as we also have a young family now and the split shifts and working Christmas Day etc means he misses out on important times with the kids. He said he never thought it would affect him before he actually had children but that hasn't turned out to be true and he does miss them sorely when working split shifts which is why we went into the sandwich shop. It appeared to be ideal as we are usually both finished in time to pick the kids up from school and spend the rest of the evening with them which is lovely. To some extent it is a lot better but we are soooo bored with the job and fed up with builders etc coming in treating us like we are thickies and now we want a career change.
Previously I was a childminder and found that the most rewarding job I have ever done and even Ofsted liked me giving me excellent grades during inspections. I'm probably looking to going into being a Teaching Assistant after the shop and OH seems keen on the idea he would like to teach in a Catering College. He has more than enough experience and realises he will have to retrain to some extent, possibly becoming a mature student, but even after trawling the internet last night we couldn't see exactly what the next step to looking into this was. He would be happy to work in a college or a school but does anybody know where to look for more advice on how he can go into teaching young aspiring chefs?
Any help much appreciated.

Personally I would go and see if a local college has that sort of course and if so go and speak to staff there, they can advise him of the best way of going about it.0

I think he would need to get a teaching certificate or diploma from the local college, if they offer the course? A friend's daughter did this, an evening course, so she studied while still at her 'day job', got a really good job lecturing in London and loves it. It would be ideal for your OH as he would probably get a lot of the college holidays off too, so would see a lot more of the children.:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

I've done a bit of lecturing for evening classes at colleges. I don't have a teaching qualification but a lot of experience and qualifications in business.
I did see an ad for temporary lecturers which was looking for occupational experience, and qualifications preferred but not essential.
A friend of mine has just retired as a senior lecturer and tells me that nearly all lecturing jobs will be on fixed term contracts from now on.0 -
Look at .foodmanjobs.co.uk
Loads of Development Chef roles- all 9-5 Mon/Fri.
I left and went into Food Development a long time ago. Still creative foodie, but with the benefits of an office job.

I go to Lipreading classes, and our tutor says that the college is 'encouraging' all staff to obtain a teaching certificate of some kind. City and Guilds used to offer one which didn't require taking a year out to obtain it, don't know if there are things like that out there.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Thanks everybody for your replies. OH actually rang Learn Direct yesterday and they basically told him he has three avenues open to him. One is to become an NVQ Assessor which he would need to do a night course for, the other is to become a college lecturer, again a night course to get some sort of diploma and the third is to become a secondary school teacher although he would need a degree for this which would take 3-4 years, longer if it was done part time so unfortunately that third option looks to be out of the running. He now has to ring the colleges to ask for further info on these night courses and take it from there. He says he's frightened to death about starting all over again but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end.
Thanks for taking the time to reply everybody0
