the way to tell a true sabatier knife is the name has a diamond next to it unlike these, there are many other sabatier names around as many companies registered the name at the same time so the only way to tell is by the logo

i cant comment on other sabatier names but "THE" sabatier knives are absolutely fantastic i have a set that cost alot! more than these, i doubt you would get one true sabatier for 20 quid let alone a set ...i have had these over 10 years and they are still perfect and no doubt will last many more years, sharpen up every time! so well worth the money

  • No idea what these are like but they are advertised in the latest issue of Olive magazine -5 piece knife set for £8.95 delivered (99p + £7.95 delivery):
    http://www.jean-patrique.co.uk/acatalog/5pceknivesOffer99p.html

I very much doubt that they are 'worth' the £125 claimed, but they do have a 25 year' guarantee'......

If you just want a decent sharp chefs/cooks knife then I can recommend these for £14/£16 with free delivery and a free paring knife:

sadly, may be clearing old stock in some branches only.

By the way, has anyone ever seen any H & B or So Beautiful leaflets in Poole or Bournemouth area - have found them only twice in over a year in Fleetsbridge only. Yet someone from Poole is selling loads on ebay (I suspect staff); and a sour member of staff denied all knowledge when I asked innocently if they ever had any in the other day. I was driven to pay nearly £8 for 500 points of the new ones recently as desperate to book a holiday by the end of the next quarter.

Have you tried Tower Park Clowance? I prefer Fleetsbridge now it has been tarted up, but they need a bigger car park!

  • I don't know if these are the same, but I saw a 5 pack in local TK Maxx for £25. Box label was Judge Sabbatier or something. Was 25 quid. Only diff seems to be the handles, whereas these look as though made of wood with metal "pins" the ones I saw was black and silver (no "pins"). I wonder how these compare to the Tesco ones.

Also had 7 pack one for £30
  • Just having a clear out of my receipts and found that it says £14 by "knife block". Fantastic - I thought £20 was a good price!

Just ordered the jean- P knives after your top tip thanks! You said it was in Olive magazine? I hope putting that as the reference will be ok as on the t&c's it was saying to enter the exact website address?? Ho hum, they took my order so hopefully I will get them.

Just wanted to say extra thanks!
Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!
  • I got a Kitchen Devils set from Debenhams last Saturday. They were reduced from £100 - £50. They are guaranteed for 15 years and are very sharp. They come in a wooden block. I tried to look for them on their website but can't find them. Maybe in store only???
