I opened a wine box on Boxing day so it really needs using if poss.

Neither of us drink wine and there's only 3-4 glasses been used out of it.

Any recipe suggestions gratefully recieved. It's WHITE btw.

  • ooh you can use white wine in loads of sauces.
not that I can remember any of them!! I only drink red, so never have white in the house, and usually miss out the wine if it's in a recipe!!

Send it to me - I'll use it up for you! :rotfl:

I sometimes use wine and herbs to poach fish in; it can be used to replace some of the liquid when making jelly to get a more adult pudding (although this is even better when it's sparkling wine).

  • You can use white wine in risotto (add just before the stock and reduce the amount of stock accordingly).

I'm pretty sure you can freeze it too but the last time I tried it didn't ever freeze properly - you might have to reduce it first? Someone else might be able to answer this.

you could try freezing it in ice cube trays then when frozen putting the cubes in a freezer bag, repeating till box used. then you could just use the cubes as and when you need them to add to sauces.

Other than that I've never really used wine or actually drank it, can you freeze some of it?

If you leave it you could use it in place of white wine vinegar in recipes.

It will last you at least another month as long as it's in the fridge.....they don't last that long in our house!

Add to gravy / sauce / risotto / soup / fondue / drink with chilled soda water

Beef Stoganoff. I make the delia one here but without the porcini mushrooms

Chicken Chasseur also contains white wine

Or do some Jamie Oliver vegetables. Put your veg in a foil parcel season and pour in a glass of wine. Stick the parcel in the oven for 40 minutes. This works excellent with carrot and other root veg.

Or do the beef served with the veg to use even more.
  • Thanks everyone. I think I might go down the freezing route (just have to make sure I don't get mixed up and put frozen white wine cubes in OH's blackcurrant squash  :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: .

Freeze some and keep some for white wine vinegar, brilliant. I never thought about it lasting beyond the six weeks it says on the box.

I'll just buy a bottle this year :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
