ACORN MEDIA were delighted to announce the release of the much-loved, delightful BBC drama series Nanny. First screened on BBC One in 1981, the hugely popular series stars one of the most recognisable faces in British sitcom, Wendy Craig (Butterflies, Not In Front Of The Children), Nanny - Series One makes its DVD debut on 7 January 2008.
When Barbara Gray (Craig) leaves the divorce court she has next to nothing. No money, no stability, with only the stigma that comes with being a divorc饠in the 1930s and a great love of children, Nanny is the story of a woman''s desperation to overcome dishonour and to become the best of nannies.
The series charts Barbara Gray''s transition from inexperienced trainee to domestic saviour of well-connected upper crust families. Eschewing Craig''s traditional scatty, maternal comedy character, Nanny is a powerful and heart-warming drama based in a confused post-World War I Britain. With splendid scripts Nanny attracted a vast audience and even encouraged an increase in young women planning careers in childcare.
Not only did Wendy Craig give a sterling performance throughout the drama, she submitted the initial idea for the series to the BBC under a pen name. Her concept was then ably translated to screen by actor and writer Terence Brady and writer and novelist Charlotte Bingham, to rave reviews and high audience figures.
Experience a slice of classic British drama at its very best with Nanny on DVD.
Special Features: Wendy Craig Filmography, Picture Gallery, Brief 1930s Background
