Is interest due on tax owed from I.R.

My partner has recently received a cheque from the inland revenue ("i.r") for £132 relating to 2002/3 tax year.

I work in VAT and know that Customs have a liability to repay statutory interest on money paid over in error (around the 3-4% mark), I wondered if anybody was aware whether the i.r operate the same conditions.

I know its not a lot of money but i'd rather it be in our pocket than theirs.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

  • supplement is due on refunds for the 2002-3 tax year - it is usually calculated and added to the repayment and one payabe order is issued to cover the repayment and interest due - if this has not happened in your case then contact your tax office-the supplement will be small on the repayment you received but better in your pocket! ;)
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)
