Anyone else had this happen? Problems with asda labelling bogof offers

ok driving a long distance and i make a pitstop at asda, go in to use the loo and buy some drinks, i head over to the drinks aisle where they have 6 packs of pepsi which i wanted, but i refused to pay 2.12 for them so i went for the 2lt bottles of water,
i went towards the checkouts and as i was making my way there i spot a bogof offer, and guess what was there - 6 packs of pepsi!!
does that meant they are doing it deliberatly? someone goes in to buy that item and picks one up because there is no advertising that the item is on offer in the aisle itself, yet the person that is walking around casually or doing a weekly shop sees the item and thinks its a good offer and buys 2!
This also happened to me at my local tesco with the galaxy ice creams that are on bogof, no advertising in the aisle but big displays elsewhere,
is this coincidence or on purpose?

Happens all the time in our local co-op. I always use their leaflet to check I've got the offers as they are often never advertised mid-aisle. It might get better when Co-Op is changed to a Tesco in a few months time.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0

My local Asda has these offer items stacked up just inside the front door. If you only have one in your shopping, the till attandant will usually invite you to pick up a free one on your way out. Just keep your receipt handy.0

It could be that they have been told that 1400 jobs are going. We went to our local Asda yesterday and they made an announcement for customers to recommend a member of staff that has helped them today...You get the feeling that whoever is not on their good list, the press reports were saying about 4 or 5 from each shop to go,would get the chop.(Asda HQ 1st of course)0 -
the press reports said 4 or 5 managers at each store, I'd say a lot of the shopfloor staff should be unaffected0

Yes it is quite deliberate. Effectively you are being rewarded for browsing, also these displays are sometimes used as diversions, many people take exactly the same path when shopping, these displays often without any of the actual products to hand are intended to encourage you to break your shopping patterns, perhaps take a different route through the shop and notice and purchase items you wouldn't normally do, it used to be that you would have huge "dump bins" dotted around stores with special offer/promotion items in, people tended to hop from display to display picking up the bargains or bogof items and not venture around the store too much, if you can encourage or even control the shopper whilst in the store you are going to increase the spend per head as so many of us are impulse buyers. Supermarkets like to think they can play mind tricks on their customers and herd them around the store in the order that is most profitable to them, sadly in most cases it works, try testing it out for yourself next time you see such a display if the product is not at the display it will usually be around three aisles away directly in your line of site, just loiter a while and watch for yourself how many people actually break their intended pattern to go directly to the product, the aim is to take full advantage of impulse buying tendancies as they wear of very fast from the time you enter the store, you are most likely to purchase an item that you don't need or can't afford when you enter the store or immediately prior to checkout and the stores point of sale will generally take this into account and try to draw you away from essentials and towards luxury items on entry and at checkout.khizman wrote:ok driving a long distance and i make a pitstop at asda, go in to use the loo and buy some drinks, i head over to the drinks aisle where they have 6 packs of pepsi which i wanted, but i refused to pay 2.12 for them so i went for the 2lt bottles of water,

Haven't heard about this Firefly. Are all Co-ops closing then or being rebranded?0 -
Hi I had the same happen to me yesterday in Asda, I was buying flavoured water, I picked up my bottles priced at 51p each but I got to another aisle and see them 3 for a £1 thats virtually 1 bottle free. I then purchase more to take advantage of the offer Annie0

Janebrain, it's only our local co-op that is changing to a Tesco. It's a local political thing as they are building a Tesco in the next town, Co-Op are worried they are likely to lose business, so have sold out to Tesco before it happens.
I'd prefer Tesco any day.Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
My local ASDA had the Pepsi clearly marked as BOGOF in it's usual aisle as well as piled high as a special offer elsewhere.0

Hi I was in Wilkinson a few months ago and a gentleman had bought a fizzy drink which was on BOGOF offer. He only had one with him and the cashier kept telling him that it was on offer and that he should go and get another one. He finally did when she said they were only 10 yards behind him. I was almost going to say if he doesn't want I'll have it.0
