Council TAX - Where can I get help ?

I am living in London, Barking and I am currenlty paying £150 of council tax. I do not qualify for any of the reductions they list in their infromation pack.

Is there a way to reduce this bill. Can I get some benefits or some government funding or help to pay this off.

You could move to a cheaper place, or a smaller property within Barking.

You could flat-share, so that the bill is divided among a larger number of people.

Depending on your circumstances, you might be eligible for Council Tax benefit. Have a look on your Council's web site and see if there's a benefits calculator. If not, why not call them or drop in and ask - they can only tell you that you're not eligible.

Is the £150 per month? Are you the lone adult in the property? If so, then you should be entitled to 25% reduction.

I am living with my girlfriend. I work. Just graduated. I am not able to move as I have a 12 months contract. It is 150 per month.

Ah, in this case, unless you're both on a very low wage and eligible for council tax benefit, you'll have to pay it.
