What shall I put here?
  • Just booked my car through Holiday Autos and then saw this. Just for fun I have looked to see if I could get a better deal with this offer and actually it is more expensive so shop around.
There are three ways to get something done; do it yourself, hire someone or forbid your kids to do it.

Agree, we havent booked as yet but for our trip to Miami their quote nearly £200 more expensive than the cheapest I can find and I can get a free upgrade as well. Also Hertz insurance is quite complicated and I dont think it includes all of the cover we are been offered else where.

'Complicated' isn't the word! Anyone know how to find out what the insurance excess is??? I've been all the way through the selection process (up to putting payment details in) and still haven't been able to find out!

Not that I'd probably book with them! They want £92 for a week at Gerona and you can get that for c£60 (with NO excess) almost anywhere else.
  • I hired a car from Hertz in Ireland last week.....

Here's the breakdown for a Vauxhall Astra:

    BASE AMOUNT:
    DAILY: 3 @ 1.89 GBP
    UNLIMITED FREE KM (MI=Miles, KM=Kilometers)
Additional Charges (included in the 'Approximate Rental Charge') - PER RENTAL
    TAX: 13.50 %
    LOCATION SERVICE CHARGE: 15.49 GBP
    COLLISION DAMAGE WAIVER: 26.16 GBP
    THEFT PROTECTION: 10.34 GBP

    APPROXIMATE RENTAL CHARGE: 60.50 GBP

So actually, the car cost me only £5.67

It's all the other bits........ I think it ended up costing £90 because I wanted superduper CDW cover

You may have got 'superduper CDW cover' to remove the excess but you would have still been liable for tyres - any roof damage - windscreen - underside of car damage which are all excluded. Meaning for any of those the full excess is payable (900 euros on a Punto in Ireland last year with Hertz).

You are better off going here - it's full cover and cheaper (it's claim back - but at least you aren't out of pocket in the long run).

    Daily - http://www.dailyexcess.com/

    Annual - http://www.insurance4carhire.com/ + 20% back on quidco.com
