I want to raise some money

Options
Hi everyone.

My husband passed his driving test today, Woohoo!

The only problem is, although his sister has said we can have her car when she buys a new one hopefully in March (although we would love to have it sooner) we have been told that not only will it need Tax and MOT but she thinks there are a few things that need doing to it for it to pass its MOT (like the suspension for one) im begining to think maybe we are doing her a favour.

All this plus the cost of Insurance, which the cheapest we have got down to is around £490, will be costing us a lot which we dont have so I have resorted to selling what I can to raise enough.

So does anyone know some good sites like ebay that wont cost me no advertise my things or any other money raising ideas.

Thanks

We've got a paper locally called Trade-It. Not sure if you'll have similar in your area. You can advertise in their free of charge although it's a pain to keep re-booking your ad.

The local shop window is always good although they charge a small donation to a local charity which I don't mind. Ebay is OK if you cover the cost of your fees in your listing, i.e. start at a resonable amount. Little and often helps. We've been saving for my sons trip and I've found that putting the money into the building society when we have it makes it add up, e.g. this morning I paid in £19.55 rather than wait until I had £25 which I would have been previously inclined to do. A true case of "look after the pennies .....".

Car boot sales should raise you a few pounds with the better weather hopefully upon us soon.

Congrats to hubby on passing his test and good luck with the savings.

    Hi Wkdwill,

You should get more help with this on the Up Your Income board so I'll move your thread across for you.

Ebid only charges if your item sells.

Gumtree is free, but local only so expect the buyer to come to your house.

I think preloved is free too.

We have 4 "free ads" papers in dorset, and had the same 4 when I lived in the north east so I guess they are national, but with regional editions. Can't remember their names but 2 are pink and there's a green one and a yellow one. Free to advertise in them, but you have to buy the paper.

Our local supermarkets have boards to advertise items, rarely see anyone looking at them, but they are free.
