sunday parking near Putney

Wondering if anybody can help-we are going to watch Fulham v Aston Villa next Sunday -does any local people know what the parking is like around Putney-looking to park south off the river and prepared to walk with kids-is there a decent big car park near by with reasonable charges???? I just thought being a Sunday there would not be the restrictions compared to during the week....

  • A few car parks in Wimbledon charge £1 all day on Sundays. Then it's just a few stops on the tube.
    .....

  • Parking in Putney is a nightmare!! I know there is a Waitrose carpark in the Exchange but I doubt that is reasonable. I would suggest the train. Or as davetrousers says, park in Wimbledon. Get the 93 bus from Wimbledon direct to Putney Bridge station and you can walk it/bus it.

If you're willing to walk, you can park for free in a lot of the roads on the estate just off Putney Heath - Dover Park Drive (don't park on Dover House Road, it's a nightmare of bollards and buses) is one I can remember using, on occasion. It might have changed, but when I was last over that way (about six months ago) it was all free parking.

If you walk back out onto Putney Heath, you can catch the 85 bus which will take you down to Putney Bridge station. You could walk, but it's a fairly long way down to the river. It's not a bad walk though, out onto the High Street and down towards the river.

This link might be helpful to see parking restrictions and times. Not controlled on Sundays!

I wouldn't recommend the safety of Dover House Road.

As I said, don't park on Dover House Road. However, I've parked in the streets off there - Parkstead Avenue? or something like that - many, many a time and never had a problem. It's where all of the Roehampton university students park, and I've never heard of anyone having a problem. I also know a number of people who live around there and it's not, generally, a bad area - lots of families and students. OH and I have also used Dover Park Drive a lot, when we wanted to get a bus into Central London, as it's handy for catching the 22 (Piccadilly Circus) and 85 (Putney Bridge Station). I now live in SE, rather than SW London, and seriously, Putney/Roehampton is a paradise compared to this side of the city. That area really isn't dangerous at all, when you compare it to much of London. I lived there for a couple of years and only moved a few months ago, and while I was perfectly happy to walk around at night there, there's no way I'd do that where I am now.

That area of 'Putney' (the Dover House Road estate area) is fine, and is a heck of a lot safer than the Danebury Avenue estate at the bottom of the hill. Now there's somewhere I wouldn't recommend parking.
