I don't get WTC??

Options
I should be starting to work next year - had a tentative job offer from the college I'm doing my placement at. I also got accepted to do my Ma Part time from September - so YEAY me!!!

So I decided to have a look at what I'd get on the entitledto website.

As a teacher, for every hour I work I can also claim 40 mins from WTC as planning and prep time so that means I need to work at least 10 hours a week or at my college - it'll be 10.5 as we do 1.5 hour lessons.

Now here's the thing - If I do less than that it means I'll be on about 15,000 a year, but as long as hit the 16 hours - they give me an extra £6000 per year!!!!

Is that right???? I know I have to pay 50/week in childcare - but that's only £2600.

Just seems a tad unfair for people working just under the required hours if this is so!!!

Sounds about right. I know what you mean about those working just below sixteen hours, but I suppose they've got to draw the line somewhere (and teachers deserve more money!)?! x

I am surprised you would get any WTC on a salary of £15k. I tried to apply when I was earning that much and working full-time and I was advised I'd get £0. I was living alone, with a big mortgage.

However, the amount you get does seem to work on how much rent/council tax are too.

The thing with all these benefits etc is, it's a whole black art finding out how much you could get etc. Even the entitledto website, while useful, is annoying as you can't load it all on one screen and play around with numbers/circumstances to see the effects.

The OP has a child, so the assessment criteria is different.

Sorry to hijack the thread :o I posted a question of my own last week and didn't find out what I was after. Could you explain the 16 hours = more tax credit thing please?..Ive been offered more hours at work (from 8 to 16 a week) and was worried how it might affect my tax cred payment. Im worried it will go down by lots,is it not the case then? I have 2 children,no childcare costs to pay at the mo but might have to during school hols.
    Help,im confuddled! lol

Be very careful regarding the DLA. Many people have ended up with huge overpayments because they inadvertantly said they received the higher CARE component of DLA when infact they got the higher MOBILITY component.

helen81 - you only become entitled to WTC when you work 16 hours or more and whilst your income would be taken into consideration and assuming you are a single parent you would have the Basic and Lone parent elements of WTC added to your calculation.

I only get lower care component so I'm ok there, but thanks.

I think that you should actually get MORE money rather than less - That's what I couldn't quite believe either - LOL.

When I was doing the calculations I get 6thousand more if I do 16 hours and only CTC if I do under.

I'm in a similar situation, I get low rate care DLA (might have carpal tunnel - they don't want to both diagnosing me ). Can't work 16 hours and do uni because of poor health - but I have to work those 16 hours to get any help. It's ridiculous really.
