Girlfriend Moving in - what do we do about her mortgage if she is renting out?

Hi all,
first post so be nice...
my girlfriend is planning to move in with me and rent her place out. She is currently with First Direct for her mortgage - obviously we have to tell them but we are confused about the distinction between a buy to let and her just renting her house out?!
Are the mortage company likely to insist she take out a new product? her rent income won't quite cover the mortgage so she'll be topping that up too.
