Moving money from US to UK

Hi everyone, this is my first post on the forums and I've recently started getting serious about my finances, I was hoping some of you could spare a few moments to give me some advice.

All my funds are stored in the US currently and I need to start repayments on a UK student loan (2.65%) roughly $24k in value, I'm estimating the minimum payment as $233 a month.

I need to work out the best way to move money from the US to the UK without paying silly tourist exchange rates either monthly or in several lumps over the year.

I'm on an H1 visa in the US and I'm a UK citizen, so I can open bank accounts in both countries if necessary.

What do people think the best ways to set this up are? I can deposit money in a UK bank account to make payments (Royal Bank of Scotland), or pay by direct debit or credit card.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
