Hi, i am working through an agency on a temp contract at the moment, but this is to end at the end of the month.
At present i am on the sick, my first day was 18/01, then 21/01 and 22/01 when the doctor gave me a sick note which takes me to the beginning of the month.
I spoke to my agency and advised of the sick note. I thought you had to put your own in first before a doctors note. I was advised by the acency that i did not have to do this, also something about them not paying until the second Wednesday. I thought the self cert would cover my first 3 days, and then i would be paid until my sick note ran out.
I have only ever put my own sick note in once before, this was about 2 years ago, and after the week was up they had me on compassionate leave as my dad had died.
Any help on this as i am completely lost.
Thanks
Vicki

As far as I am aware the doctors note starts the day its issued irrespective of any sick leave taken before. Also, not sure what you mean re 18/01, 21/01 - weekends etc are included even if you dont work them.
You'll need to check your terms and conditions re sick pay.0 -

How long have you been with this agency? If you have been with them for less than three months how long is your contract with them?
If you have been with them for more than three months then you are entitled to SSP subject to the SSP rules.
To get SSP you must be sick and do no work for at least four consecutive days.
You should have notified them of your sickness in time and provided a self cert form for the first 7 days if required and some form of certificate for example a doctor's cert after that, again if required.
You need average earnings of at least the lower earnings limit for the eight weeks before you are sick.
If they are not paying SSP then they should give you an SSP1 form advising why they are not paying, and return any certificates.
If they are paying SSP then you need to find out what the qualifying days (QDs) are in your employment, these are the days that SSP is paid for. You will not recieve any SSP for the first three QDs these are known as waiting days ( some people may not have to serve these waiting days if they have been off recently but you advise have not been off for two years so you will have to) QDs are often the days that you normally work but they may not be, a different pattern may have been agreed.
You should then be paid from the fourth QD and payment should be made at the time you would normally be paid for these days.0 -

Weekends count if they are normal working days, otherwise the OP is correct to think of the waiting days as being the Friday, Monday and Tuesday.0 -
Chrisbur,
I have been with this agency for about 2 yrs, but have been in the same contract for 3 1/2 yrs(this agency took over from a previous one and advised everything would stay the same). I have had the odd day sick here and there for the same complaint but not enough to put in a sick note.
The contract itself is renewed every three months, but is ongoing-or it was, untill they wanted every one to go permanant-which is not the right time for me as we are selling our house and moving but have nowhere to go at the minute.
I was sure that a self-cert had to go in first and the last on i got from the agency. I honestly thought that was what was to be done, and that they are not being honest with me as they also rip us off over holiday pay,

Have you recieved an SSP1 form advising you that you are not getting SSP?
If not have you had any SSP as yet and how mutch?
When are you normally paid and when is this for? eg paid every Friday for the week ended the Sunday before.
You do not have to provide any medical evidence like a doctor's certificate for the first seven days. You do need to provide a self cert form if one is required by your employer.
When your payment of SSP starts will depend on the number of Qualifying days in the week, do you know what your Qualifying days are?0 -

No, have not recieved anything. Got my last pay on Friday for the previous week, this was a day short as i had been off on the Fiday. Paid Monday to Sunday. I thought a self cert was needed. Do not know what the qualifying days are.

Qualifying days are, generally speaking, your normal working days. You say you are paid Monday to Sunday - is this because that is how the agency lays out its timesheet or do you actually work seven days a week?0 -

The payment that you have recieved would not have had any SSP in it.
You need to ask your employer if they are going to pay SSP and do they want a self cert form of any kind.
If they are not paying SSP ask for the SSP1 form which will give the reason and is also a claim form for state sick pay.
If they are paying SSP ask what are the Qualifying Days so that you can work out when you will recieve SSP and how mutch.0 -

Just work Monday to Friday, Monday to Sunday is acually the timesheet layout

Just spoke to my agency, and they have spoke to their payroll department to confirm. They do not need a self-cert as they will still pay me sick, but it is their policy to pay after the second Wednesday, this will be Wednesday this week, so they will pay me sick money only for Thursday as that is when my contract ends. As this is the only wage i have coming into the house- and i still have all my bills and mortgage to pay(unless the house sale goes through), they have suggested i speak to the Dole office,
