Hitachi capital (on behalf of DFS)

Hi, i'm just wondering if anyone can share some help / experience

We ordered a sofa from DFS in June 2006, paying nothing for 12 months with pay monthly installments for 6 months to clear the balance with no interest.

The finance was given from Hitachi Capital for the purchase and it was signed instore and we were given a copy. However this agreement has been mislaid somewhere along the way.

Before Christmas we received a letter from HC saying that there was a balance of £120 (ish) still outstanding so we queried this with them to which they responded it is for the cost of the insurance.

However we did not tick any box requesting the insurance to be taken out so what should we do. The balance of the sofa is paid but they still claim this amount is outstanding.

  • We have managed to find the original agreement and even though we neevr asked for PPI to be included they ticked the box and have wrote "Card Read" next to it. Robbing b******s

Anyway it transpires we have been paying out £185 a month thinking that was to pay the cost of the sofa when in effect £165 has been paying the sofa and the other £20 is for PPI

However as we have paid the cost of the sofa there is still £120 outstanding (ie the PPi cost 6x£20)

But as we have paid the purchase price of the sofa and we did not want the ppi are we within our rights to tell them to shove it?

This needs investigating as it seems we are not the only ones who have been duped into being signed up for this despite not wanting it.
