Just to note you can get some real MP3 bargains on ebay, but beware they are priced at a £0.01 and it is not just the postage but the compulsory insurance that pushes up the price.

Saying that I have not seen cheap ones with card readers, but I'm looking at a 256MB MP3 DVR FM for £23.00 all in. The problem is that it's postage from Hong Kong, so even more risky than Aria, and there could end up being customs to pay on top.

512MB versions for less than £40, but as I said a lot more risky than Aria.

Shame it doesn't seem to support folder playlists, which are useful when you can store so many songs.

I bought one of these from Aria a few weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. I already have an iPod but that's too big to carry around in the summer when you dont have a jacket pocket to put it in. The Aria weighs next to nothing and sits easily in my shirt pocket. Sound quality is surprisingly good. It sounds just as good as the iPod to my untutored ear (although I haven't sat down and done a detailed comparison in a silent room).

It will play MP3's stored in folders but you don't get to see the folder tree, the files just appear as one long list.

I haven't tried out the radio, voice recorder or line-in facility but just as a pure MP3 player it's very good value for money at that price.

Aria's "Super Specials" only last for a few days and then the price reverts back to normal (i.e. £70+). I bought my 8001 for £48 (inc P&P) when it was a Super Special two weeks ago. It then reverted to the normal price before going back on Super Special a few days ago so it looks like items cycle back onto the Super Special list reasonably quickly. My advice is to keep monitoring the Super Specials for the next couple of weeks - there's every chance the 8001 will make an appearance again at the reduced price. Alternatively, you can sign up to Aria's mailing list - I get an e-mail from them every couple of days telling me what's on Super Special.

This is on offer at Aria now for £10.56 plus postage

    http://www.aria.co.uk/productinfocomm.asp?ID=17928&SpecialStatus=1

No internal memory it takes SD cards and you can get an 512MB SD card for around £20 so you could have a 1GB MP3 player for less than £60.

Aria have the 1Gb version of the Arianet 8001 on sale at £73 (inc P&P and VAT). There were still 19 available when I looked. I've had the 512Mb version for over a month now and I'm very happy with it (As mentioned in my post above). Whenever the 512Mb version has appeared on special offer at Aria before it has sold out the same day so if you want one of these 1Gb ones I'd get in quick.
