This will require some patience and time - probably totally outweighing the worth of winning this software.
I am an interior designer / technician, I use 3d CAD software everyday to draw buildings. I saw the grand designs competition, downloaded the trial software and I can tell you that the Arcon program is TERRIBLE! It's not at all intuitive, clumsy to use and produces poor quality drawings. Why anybody would want to win it is beyond me.
Arcon claim the program is used professionally by architects and designers- those guys must be living in the dark ages or be total masochists. IMHO there is nothing professional about the program.
Do yourself a favour, don't try to win this, just download Google Sketchup, there is a free version. It's easy to use, produces fantastic results and IS used by many architects and designers.
Grand Designs have obviously not experimented with Arcon themselves, if they had, they would be aware how hard it is to use. If Grand Designs really want to see creative design, they should be running a competition to win the pro version of Sketchup.0 -
I'm not an expert, but I agree I don't like the software it is not very user friendly.0

With Sketchup Pro can you draw a cavity wall, insert windows and doors to you own designs, draw topographical landscapes with slopes, banks, place an automatic or free design roof with full control over timber dimensions, pitch, soffits, fascias, then insert lights and objects, then render any view with lights and reflections, then animate objects and walkthroughs, produce AVI rendered movies, and then produce a full set of drawings with sections, elevations, plans ? and all for £199 ?
I use Sketchup Pro and yes its good, but Arcon 3D Architect is made for building design and IMHO its excellent.
Some users here seem to find it hard to use, but I think this is just a measure of the user, not the software0
