Nice to hear from you DF but not in such yuk circumstances, obviously.
Nationwide put up such a user friendly image that they're not a bank but still a cuddly building society but I've heard and read similar stories about them. What a cheek wanting you to bear the costs of their outrageous court application. Hope they freeze the interest for you.
Quite! We have been customers of Nationwide since 1998, and we only entered into a DMP in March. That's how quickly they went for it. I'm appalled at their behaviour, and wouldn't hesitate to tell them so by letter if I didn't think it could make things worse (by them keep adding interest).
They treat people with utter contempt, and under that nice image, where they insist they will do everything they can to assist you in financial difficulty, they are a horrendous bunch of sharks.
I may just write a letter to them now, saying "Following your failed bid for a charging order, I would now like to politely request that interest is frozen on this debt......
It was an overdraft (£3,000) which stayed at that level once we'd opened our safe bank acount. Within 2 weeks we were placed on their automated call database, where we were being telephoned 3 times a day, every day for 10 days, up to 9pm. It only stopped when I eventually got through to someone and went ballistic, threatening legal action due to their harassement.
They are one of our smallest debts. We have £11k on another credit card, and that particular company couldn't have been more helpful. No action taken whatsoever - not even a default notice - and interest reduced to 6%.
Next up is Nationwide again for a £3,000 credit card debt, which is going for redetermination shortly. They want a charging order for that too, but I don't fancy their chances.
I have to say the judge was very sympathetic, helpful and reasonable in her decision. I have never been so nervous as I walked into that court, but the experience left me full of confidence in our courts system for this kind of thing at least.Debt Free Determined for 2008 :j0
