Sharp Twin Tuner Freeview PVR 160gig £100

Just picked one of these up from Tesco. Had only planned to buy a freeview box for the bedroom telly, but thought this such a good price impulse got the better of me.

Model: Sharp TU-R160HA

A bit of Googling shows it is a very good price for that model. Can't find it online for anything close to £100

It's quite solidly built, outputs RGB, S video & CVBS on scart (I really need Svid, as it's the onle spare quality input on my panel). Has a nice display on the front which shows the channel you're watching. So it beats my snazzy Topfield in that respect. Has other natty features like the opportunity to manually remove channels from the list, so no more flicking thru' QVC and encrpyted TopupTV channels for me.

Can't find it online at Tesco Direct, but our local store had a pile of the things. If you're looking for a PVR you could do a lot worse (IMHO)

Isn't this the same as the Digihome that Argos have for around £95

It is from the vestel stable as is Digihome. I have read on digitalspy that the sharp one has a different firmware to the digihome ones.

I have checked the sharp uk website and in the manual it does show a Optical audio output, but no coax one.
  • Yes, can confirm it has an opitical digital audio out, though TBH I don't know how useful it is. It's not as if any of the broadcasters are transmitting in 5.1 Dolby Digital, or anything.

Found this review, if anyone wants it, and you can go through greasy palm for cashback. I found it on the website by putting in the item number.
    Hope this helps
