Will previous owner's bad credit affect me?

in Credit cards
I've just applied for a cashback credit card to put my work expenses on (yesterday) and this morning my husband appeared waving a letter he had opened (I know, he shouldn't have!) for, I presume, a long-gone previous occupier. The people we bought our house from lived here for 5 years and it wasn't for them.
IThe letter was from a debt collection agency saying if Mr X didn't contact them within 7 days a "field collector" would be calling (is that a bailiff??). My husband immediately called the company saying we knew nothing of this person : they said they would sort it out.
My question is, will this affect my application? Presumably it wouldn't show on my own record as it's a completely different name.
Is there anything else I should do?

Credit ratings assess people, not dwellings. If you share a financial product with someone
else then you are financially linked to them and so their poor management of their own finances could have a knock on effect on your personal finances and your credit rating, but simply occupying the same house as someone with a poor credit history has no effect whatsoeverPeople who don't know their rights, don't actually have those rights.0
