Consumer rights....

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but sure it will be moved if not.

Bought my dad a tv (Philips, 28", 100Hz) from a fairly large dept store, and got the additional 5yr warranty. The tv was a bargain as it was an ex display model, and there was a 20% off day, meaning I got a £750 tv for £400!

This was in Mar 03. Then in Apr 05, the TV decides to play silly buggers and does not show the picture, but you can hear the sound! Anyway it was taken away to be repaired. They then come back and say that it is not possible to repair it, and they are going to provide me with £400 of vouchers for that store.

Looking in the store now, all of the TVs that they have are overpriced, and 2yrs on, it is difficult to replace my dad's tv for a similar model without adding more £££ into the total.

Am i within my rights to ask them for an equivalent replacement?? Clearly the £400 (original purchase price) is a good start, but I really don't want to have my dad settle for a smaller screen / dip into his pocket for a similar model!

Suggestions welcome as I am now taking this on, as my dad is too old and tired to argue with the store / insurance company.

Thanks.
