personal vehcile leasing

hi there,

i currently work for a car hire firm and wish to lease a vehicle for personal use.

My company have stopped the leasing program but i still need a car for day to day use.

i have looked at various dealerships who do right to own options after 2-3yrs but i am not sure if this is good or not due to the value of the car dropping so much.

i have seen various sites on the net that offer leasing, but again i am unsure what to make of them ...

has anyone any ideas or tips or maybe any companies to recommend??

i know that i am mad asking since i work for a car company but i thought the members here might have some better suggestions.

thanks all

Aiden ;)

I can't advise you about financing, but I will say that a NEW CAR will depriciate considerably in the first 12/24 months. I would opt for purchasing a nearly new vehicle, this company Click Here have some very good deals. A nice extra for a nearly new vehicle has to be a personal number plate Click Here.

If it's your intention to change the vehicle every 2,3 or 4 years then you have to consider that you will need available funds to achieve this, either by paying off the loan or other type of funding, usually using the resale value of the car to do this, and if at all possible making a profit to part finance your next vehicle.

Diesels hold there value extremely well as do automatics and vehicle with low insurance groups with good economy. If you choose the wrong vehicle it could cause more problems than it's worth.

Good luck, hopefully others will be able to give clear advise with regards financing.

This will be the way forward, in the next year or 2, if the car makers get their way.

It works well, if you never really want to own the vehicle - you'll be financing the depreciation, together with predicted running costs.

Beware the mileage charges, if you go over agreed amounts. Easy to do, if you suddenly changed jobs & had to travel further, to work.

I'd prefer to finance the vehicle myself have something to show for the payments I'd made. Not much the way prices are of used cars, these days!!

    Then you'll know they've a margin of £800 - £??????? on each vehicle!!

Sort your finance yourself & buy a late model car from auction.

You should check hhtp://www.honestjohn.co.uk for tips.

Does anybody know anything about the personal american style leasing that Reg Vardy were going to introduce. There was a big fanfare in the papers some months back, but nothing else seems to have happened. Have I missed something?

I purchase-leased a vehicle through Automotive Management, who acquired it through Custom Fleet Ltd.

The gain is that I only paid £1300 to drive the new £12,000 car away. I pay a couple of hundred a month thereafter. Each payment is paying for the car.

I can arrange for them to sell it after 2 years, or buy it, or move across to another vehicle.

You are driving a car without paying for it. Instead you pay the "depreciation" each month, but the provider invests the money, instead of you.

    My £12,000 is earning interest..

I wouldn't normally do this. I agree with the chap above, buy nearly new. Except I needed a brand new company car for reliability, without paying for it.

By the way, excellent depreciation graphs at What Car:

See "compare up to 3 cars", on the right.
  • Hi,
I'm a newbie to posting on MSE, so please be gentle! :D
I'm looking to get rid of our 2 bangers and get a couple of lease cars for a short period - hopefully we're going to Oz next august / september, so only need cars for less than 12 months.
The 2 bangers are costing us a fortune in services / repairs / mot etc, so thought this may be a more comfortable way of spending the money!!
Is there any advice / thoughts on this???

    :):):):):) ??? ??? ??? ??? :):):):):)
