Homebase Philips Energy Saving Lightbulbs - 49p & 99p

Our local Homebase (and I assume all others) is selling off older stock of Philips Energy Saving Lightbulbs, many down to 49p each including the 60W equivalents (11W) . The 100W equivalents (18W) are down to 99p. There were hundreds there yesterday.

  • If you can find a NETTO the Philips 11 and 18 Watt are both 49p.

I was in Morrisons in Morecambe on Friday night and they have Philips 9 watt (40 watt equivalent) at 4 for 99p. Only BC fitting though. They also have their own branded low energy bulbs at 49p for a pack of two.
No point stocking up though as this will soon be the normal price for these bulbs and if they last as long as they claim you will just end up storing them for years, by which time technology will have progressed and they may be smaller by then or have been superceded by LED technology.

The thing I hate about them is the slow start and the flicker. By the time you've finished in a room, they've warmed up! I notice there are newer fast "turbo" start models, for a fiver! Crazy price, but whilst they are based on fluorescent technology, they'll always flicker - so I can't use them to work or read by. They are ok for hallwalls and spare-bedrooms though IMO.
  • Homebase are now selling in store packs of 5 pf the 11w for £1.50, they are getting cheaper!

Don't forget there's an extra 10% off everything at Homebase until the end of today!

Modern low energy lamps use electronic ballasts with very high switching frequencies - 10kHz or higher which is quicker than the human eye can detect.
